The Azerbaijan State Agricultural University (ADAU), together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency (AKIA) under the Ministry of Agriculture, held a seminar on the theme «Enhancing the Role of Agricultural Education and Learning in Global Food Security», dedicated to World Food Day, October 16.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the Shehids who died for the integrity of our lands.
Welcoming the participants, Associate Professor Anar Khatamov, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said that the main goal of the day was to raise awareness among people suffering from hunger and malnutrition in the world, to reduce losses and food waste, and to stress the importance of a healthy diet for all.
Teymur Nagibeyli, Head of the Cooperation Sector with International Organizations and Financial Institutions of the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency, spoke about the projects «Increasing Employment in Agricultural sector (AMAL)» and «Enhancing women’s economic empowerment - WEP» AKIA; Elmaddin Namazov, Operations Specialist of the FAO Office in Azerbaijan, made a speech on the Projects of the Azerbaijan-FAO Partnership Program; Parviz Aliyev, Head of the Research Department of the Agro Research Centre – on «Sustainable Food Systems»; Ismail Turkan, Professor of the Ege University of the Turkish Republic - on «Development of plant biology in the post-genomic period»; Abbas Ismailov, Associate Professor of the Department of Horticulture of ADAU – on "The role of biodiversity conservation in food security".
Experts then answered the students' questions.
Staff of the FAO Partnership and Coordination Office in Azerbaijan, the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency and the Agro Research Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture, a group of visiting teachers, businessmen and students of the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University and from Ege University also took part in the event.
